The Historic Dockyard in Kent is the world’s most complete surviving historic dockyard. It is the place that provided the ships that foiled the Spanish Armada, built HMS Victory (Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805) and maintained Britain’s submarine fleet during the Cold War.
At Chatham you can board historic warships, see a 400 metre long Victorian rope factory, plus visit an 1838 covered boat building shed (slip) along with multiple specialist naval museums and exhibits.
(The site is also a key filming location for the BBC series Call the Midwife!).
